Derived from its South African roots, Kwalu comes from the Xhosa word for bamboo which is known for its strength, flexibility and eco-friendly properties. These traits are reflected in our company's passionate commitment to durable, sustainable, innovative products.
In our view, the key to "green furniture products" is longevity and the use of non-wood alternatives. In terms of longevity, there is no furniture that will last longer than Kwalu's and we back that up with our industry-leading 10 year warranty. In terms of raw materials, most of our chair frames are made from a high impact resistant acrylic based co-polymer which helps reduce the impact on forests.
Our products have an extended life cycle due to the 10 year warranty, easy maintenance, and their ready reparability while in active service. This virtually eliminates the replacement cycle and saves on furniture purchases, as no factored in excesses or spares are required. Kwalu products also contribute to internal air quality -- products are not painted/coated and release no VOCs. Many of our seating products contain up to 40% post industrial recycled material. Our products can be refurbished or recycled, decreasing solid waste concerns.
Kwalu furniture and wall protection products can contribute to individual LEED (The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits, offering up to 10 points in the Commercial Interiors category, 10 in New Construction, 8 in Schools and 1 in Existing Buildings.
